Rendering, oh rendering, how will I conquer thee?

Have a look at these amazing rendered images of The fall House in California.  At first I thought they were real, but at a closer look one realises that they are rendered!

I absolutely adore this house: Glass and copper cliff house in Bug Sur, California by Fougeron Architects.

The structure follows the lay of the land along the 250m steep bluff overlooking the Pacific ocean.  It hovers lightly over the land and at the rear becoming completely part of the context anchoring itself against the cliff.

Going back to university after many years is quite a daunting notion.  Something that I am still getting used to.  Fortunately, this year on my return, the School of Architecture at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) hosted four workshops in architectural and technical design for the students of architecture and technology, in the first three weeks of the year as part of its academic programme (which I will tell you about in a later blog).

I first want to introduce to you the multi award winning Italian Architect that presented the workshop which I attended: Raul Panteleo.

I was quite taken by this affable man of medium stature and rigorous work ethic.  Insisting on travelling by bicycle to the university and back to his hotel daily (Raul being passionate about pedestrianising cities).

Raul Pantaleo is and Italian Architect, designer and author, born in 1962 in Milan and resides in Venice.  His work is primarily in the field of shared bio-ecological design and social communication (believing whole-heartedly in the participatory process, by which the client, professionals and the community are involved in the project).

He is the founder of Studio Tamassociati, a practice that is known for their work with NGO’s including Emergency and Bianca Etica (Italian based) working on social projects in critical areas.

His buildings are not only sensitive to the environment (taking every opportunity to implement sustainable practices) but sensitive to the community as well.  As shown in the images below, Raul has been involved in the construction of buildings that are in the interest of the communities i.e. Salam Centre for Cardiac Surgery, Paediatric Centre in Port Sudan, Goederich Paediatric Centre and many more.

It was truly an honour working with Raul Pantaleo, an experience that I will never forget and the knowledge gained I will use for the rest of my Architectural career.

His compassion is overwhelming and something to aspire to.
